Knowing, teaching and learning

At the age of 21, I realised that my embouchure was limiting my development and that I needed to change the way I played to meet the demands of the repertoire. I therefore decided to change my embouchure and rethink my approach to the trumpet.

It was not an easy process. It took several years of study and research, with the support of colleagues and teachers and, more recently, Jeff Smiley. This work enabled me to overcome difficulties and perform some of the most demanding works in the Baroque repertoire.

Throughout this journey, I developed a deep interest in teaching and in helping other trumpeters achieve their goals. My experience taught me the importance of understanding each student’s difficulties and working together to find solutions suited to their needs. I also learn from my students: their questions, experiences and approaches to the instrument encourage me to reflect on and deepen my own practice as a musician and teacher.
